September Update: Staff News & Golf Tournament Success

way’ OKIB relatives,

We’ve got some exciting updates from our staffing front, and we’re ready to share the good news!

A Fond Farewell to Qui Parker!

First up, let’s give a huge shout-out to Qui Parker, our amazing Research Assistant who did amazing work this summer with us! From diving into events, whipping up business plans, crafting spot-on communications, getting his hands dirty, and learning about our forestry department, Qui has done it all! We’re sad to see him go, but we know he’s off to do great things at university this fall. Best of luck, Qui – you’ll crush it!

Welcome Back, Sharnelle!

Now, let’s welcome back the fabulous Sharnelle Paul! After spending a year focusing on the most important job ever—nurturing her family—Sharnelle is back in the office and ready to shine! Not only has she completed her Administrative Assistant Certificate, but she’s also wrapped up her practicum hours with us. Congratulations, Sharnelle! We’ve missed your spark!

Say Hello to Lindsey Crowe!

Joining our Administration Team is the talented Lindsey Crowe (Brewer)! As an OKIB Band member and an experienced Accounting Technician with Clark Robinson, Lindsey brings a wealth of knowledge, skills, and a dash of fabulousness to our team. We’re thrilled to have you with us, Lindsey!

Introducing Taylor Belanger!

And let’s not forget our newest addition to the OKIB Holdings GP Board, Taylor Belanger! A Certified Financial Planner and a founding member of the VantageOne Credit Union’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Reconciliation Committee, Taylor is here to help guide our financial future. Welcome aboard, Taylor!

Swinging for a Cause!

Now for some fantastic news: the 2024 3rd Annual Okanagan Indian Band and OKIB Group of Companies Golf Tournament raised an incredible $65,936 for the Cultural Immersion School! Held at The Rise Golf Course, this year’s tournament saw 152 golfers come together for a great cause. Proceeds will support the construction of the new Cultural Immersion School, nḱmaplqs iʔ snḿaḿáyaʔtn iʔ ḱl sqilxʷtət. We’ve surpassed our fundraising goals with over $274,378 raised to date!

A big thank you to all our sponsors, players, and volunteers—your generosity is making a real difference for our kids, who are currently learning in overcrowded spaces. Let’s keep that momentum going!

We’re all about growth and teamwork here at OKIB, and with these new additions and fantastic fundraising efforts, the future looks bright. There are some exciting opportunities ahead, and we can’t wait to take them on together.
